"If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music.

I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music. I get the most joy in life out of music."

For All that Is Our Life

"For All that Is Our Life," one of my favorite hymns from the Unitarian Universalist hymnal (# 128 in Singing the Living Tradition). A beautiful song of gratitude. I love the tune, I love the words, and I love the lilting piano accompaniment. It is a beautiful affirmation to make our own days glad.

For all that is our life we sing our thanks and praise;
for all life is a gift which we are called to use
to build the common good and make our own days glad.

For needs which others serve, for services we give,
for work and its rewards, for hours of rest and love;
we come with praise and thanks for all that is our life.

For sorrow we must bear, for failures, pain, and loss,
for each new thing we learn, for fearful hours that pass:
we come with praise and thanks for all that is our life.

For all that is our life we sing our thanks and praise;
for all life is a gift which we are called to use
to build the common good and make our own days glad.
